1.1.3 Arrival on site and size-up
These sites are commonly very traumatic , they involved stressed ground workers ; a suspended aerial worker and often a failed rescue attempt ( by a stressed unskilled ground
worker ) either in progress or retreated . It is critical that the responding officer takes charge and ensures the safety of their teams , public and then the workers and casualties .
General safety concerns may include : A Traffic hazards ( vehicle and foot ). Traffic management workers may be distracted by incident .
B Heavy machinery , including trucks , chippers , EWPs , cranes , excavators , and other mobile plant .
C Debris from dismantling trees ( impacting access to base of tree ).
A primary tactical decision may include clearing the debris to have a safe workspace available to conduct operations .
D Hung-up trees or other hazards affecting workers on the ground .
