Canopy anchors
• To install a line using a canopy anchor , secure the rope in some manner to a suitable anchor point within the tree crown structure
• Many different possible canopy anchors exist , but the simplest is just a running knot such as a running bowline or running alpine butterfly or similar .
Canopy anchor advantages
• May be only a single load on the anchor point ( contrast with basal anchor ).
• May allow easier advancing or re-setting of anchor point , depending on setup used .
Canopy anchor disadvantages
• Anchor point must be isolated for most setups to work .
• Cannot be lowered or belayed from the ground .
• Chokes or cinches around the branch so can be used where the line is not set in a branch union .
