Process to use a stationary boom high point
1 . Install redirect points or anchor points below the rescue basket .
2 . Run the rescue rope ( s ) through these points or attach to these points .
3 . Install redirect pulleys to the boom as necessary .
4 . Manage the working end of the ropes as the basket is moved over the casualty .
5 . Use the ropes to perform a rescue as a normal rope-based rescue . Where possible , ask the casualty to attach themselves .
If a rescuer must ascend to perform the rescue , they should begin their ascent from the ground once the ropes are in position .
It is not recommended for the rescuer to ‘ bail out ’ of the basket to begin the rescue . ‘ Bailing out ’ saves a small amount of effort on ascent but introduces additional difficulties of equipment configuration and preparation . Equipment cannot be adequately preloaded , and significant shock loads may be created .
Not all booms can be used for craning . To use rescue booms in this manner requires a suitable rated attachment point to be present on the side or underside of the rescue basket . Tree company EWPs cannot be used in this manner .
