The lift continues in a slow , controlled manner under the close direction of both the lift controller and safety officer . Cribbing and stabilisation must be continually placed to prevent unintended movement or dropping of the load in the event of an airbag failure .
Once sufficient clearance is achieved , re-check the stabilisation and then extricate the casualty under the direction of the medical team .
Extrication
This is controlled by the medical team .
• Ensure the spinal board is at hand .
• Maintain minimal discussion so that the medical team can focus on the casualty and that the rescue team stay aware of their priorities and are ready to assist where required .
• Keep the area clear of unwanted equipment .
• Clear a path for the transport of the casualty and stretcher free of trip hazards and slips .
