As shown , the system has many advantages . It can be set from the ground using a throwline and hauled into place , and can be used to easily position a top anchor above a casualty even where the tree has dense internal growth . If set remotely , it is critical to ensure that the top anchor is bombproof prior to commitment .
Once the casualty has been connected , the ground team can lower both casualty and rescuer to the ground . If the casualty is conscious and able to assist , it may be possible to use this system to perform a ground-based rescue by asking the casualty to connect into the skate block .
