Equipment requirements
To climb past the original access line , the following equipment may be required : General equipment :
• PPE .
• Harness with front and side D attachments .
Initial tree access equipment :
• 2 x climbing ropes ( main and belay ).
• Rope ascent equipment ( ascenders etc as used for normal VR rescue ascent ).
• Auto-belay device ( Petzl ASAP and attachments ).
Equipment to advance between anchors :
• 2 x complete MRT climbing systems , including climbing rope , suitable connectors , and selfbelay device such as a Petzl ID or CT Sparrow 200R .
• 1 x adjustable lanyard or flip line , with additional connectors and friction system .
This equipment should be checked and where possible configured ( installed onto the ropes ) whilst on the ground before beginning ascent . This reduces the possibility of misconfiguration at height , and eliminates risks associated with loose gear .
Some of the equipment listed above may be unfamiliar to rescue operators or is used in a different manner for these techniques and will be discussed in more detail below .
