Methods to tie in
Method 1 : for access and individual pickoff
1 . Check hook surface and ensure no sharp edges or burrs . 2 . Tape or wire the hook of the crane shut . 3 . Choke a suitable tape sling or prusik cord sling onto the hook using a Klemheist or similar hitch .
4 . Attach a climbing line to this sling using a suitable rated karabiner and Figure-8 Loop knot .
5 . Attach the belay line directly into the hook using a Scaffold knot ( Poacher ’ s knot ) or similar compact , cinching endline attachment knot .
Method 2 : for stationary boom high point rescue
1 . Tape or wire the hook of the crane shut
2 . Choke a suitable tape sling or prusik cord sling onto the hook using a Klemheist or similar hitch .
3 . Attach a double pulley to this sling using a suitable rated karabiner and girth hitch or similar .
4 . Set the main and belay lines through this double pulley .
5 . To avoid creating a critical point , girth hitch a second line directly into the hook .
6 . Attach both legs of this line to the pulley karabiner with a mid-line knot such as a double alpine butterfly .
7 . Attach karabiners to each end of this line with scaffold knots and connect the karabiners to the main and belay lines .
The hook can now be positioned over the casualty to allow both the main and belay line to be lifted or lowered from the ground .
