1.2.2 Casualty lift and movement techniques Butt block ( ground lift and lower )
The butt block system pictured above should be the default ( preferred ) lift and lower system for most tree rescues .
The task requirements for the rescue climber are significantly reduced , and there is no requirement to perform any lifting or lowering from a potentially uncomfortable position in the crown of the tree . The butt block , belay device and haul system can be assembled on the ground whilst the rescue climber is ascending , such that the casualty can be easily lifted and lowered as soon as the casualty is attached .
Variations of this system can be used for poletop , branch-end and other tree rescue scenarios .
