Equipment requirements for tree access and rescues
Most of the rope and rigging techniques described in this manual are achievable using a wide range of equipment that would be commonly available to a vertical rescue team . The following additional equipment is required to access and work in trees :
Access establishment :
• 1 x Big Shot ® or air-powered cannon .
• 4 x throwline cubes .
• 4 x 60m throwlines .
• 8 x throwline weight bags , mix in weight and size . Each line to have bottom weight bag as well as top .
• 4 x mini carabiners ( to attach throwlines with ).
Access ( personal ):
• Spurs ( long gaff ).
• 2 x flip lines – 8m with auto lock adjuster .
• Mix of slings ( pre sewn or 25mm tube tape ).
• Set of fours personal mechanical advantage system .
Tree management :
• Hand saw on attachment rope ( for small branch pruning in tree ).
• Chainsaw lanyard ( for use with chainsaw to manage hazards in tree ).
