Shock May be caused by blood / fluid loss , severe anaphylaxis , allergic reaction , severe asthma , severe infection , heart attack , abnormal heart rhythms , spinal injury .
Casualty may be anxious , restless , confused , unconscious .
Rapid irregular and shallow breathing .
Bleeding ( External ) Chainsaw cuts .
Cold , pale , sweaty skin , rapid pulse .
Lacerations . Rope cuts . Impact injuries .
Assess DRSABC . Call Ambulance Service . Rescue casualty to ground .
Provide first aid for major injuries / illness / other injuries in that order .
Manage patient lying flat and keep warm . Cover with emergency blanket to maintain body temperature .
DO NOT give food or drink .
If they become unconscious place in recovery position and monitor ABC .
Assess DRSABC . Rescue to ground .
Apply firm , direct pressure to the bleeding site with a gloved hand , use a sterile pad or bandage .
Consider torniquet for major bleeding to arms or legs .
Ask the patient to apply pressure using a pad , or bandage during rescue if possible to do so .
If a foreign object is present in a wound , it should be left in place during rescue . Use bandages to minimize movement and secure the object .
Call Ambulance Service .
Bleeding ( internal )
Discolouration / bruising of skin in injured area .
Cool / moist / blueish skin .
Altered / deteriorating state of consciousness .
Known mechanism injury , e . g . fall , impact .
Pain .
Assess DRSABC . Call Ambulance Service . Rescue casualty to ground .
Assist casualty to a position of comfort .
Manage for shock .
Do not give medication , alcohol , food or drink .
