The chapter on crush injury rescue was written by Warren Frey of the Tasmania Fire Service . This challenging rescue type is sadly common in tree work and is insufficiently addressed by existing literature . Arboriculture Australia and the New Zealand Arboricultural Association are sincerely grateful for Warren ’ s expertise and generous assistance with providing straightforward guidance on recommended responses for crush injury rescue .
The chapter on common arboricultural injuries and contemporary response priorities was co-authored by Adam Marmion , Intensive Care Flight Paramedic with Ambulance Tasmania . A current record of medical ‘ best practice ’ for a range of common tree work injuries will be of enormous benefit for both vertical rescue professionals and the arboricultural industry . This valuable opportunity would not have been possible without Adam ’ s generous contribution .
The authors would like to thank the members of the Tasmania Fire Service vertical rescue team , who reviewed an early draft of this manual whilst undertaking tree rescue training . Their engagement and constructive criticism made this manual a much more useable document .
In addition , the authors would like to thank the members of the Westpac Aeromedical and Medical Retrieval service of Tasmania , who both reviewed the document and contributed to the chapter on injuries and response priorities .
