Lanyard compression rescue
Where possible , the use of a dedicated aerial rescue appliance should always be considered as the preferred option . This allows rescuers to safely access and work around the casualty . It is crucial to consider the risk to the appliance if the partially failed section becomes dislodged during the rescue .
Where good high anchors can be established , rescuers can access the casualty safely from above , secure the casualty and then cut them free or otherwise remove the loaded lanyard . The climbing and rescue techniques previously described in this manual will be sufficient to perform the rescue .
Bottom-up rescues on a partially failed stem are particularly challenging . Please see the following page for a description of this technique .
